The long way down to Kelingking

A limestone headland with a white beach at its foot and one steep path down to it. Scroll to walk it.

01

From the air

Everyone calls it the T-Rex.

From up here you can see why: a long neck of rock, and a head with its jaw in the sea.

02

The clifftop · 150 m

Most people stop at the railing.

They take the photo from this platform and head back to the car park. The beach is another 150 metres down.

03

The ridge · 95 m

The path runs along the spine.

Concrete steps first, then a ridge a few metres wide with a long drop on either side.

04

The switchbacks · 55 m

Then it gets steep.

Packed earth and bamboo rails, back and forth down the face above the beach. Your legs will know about it tomorrow.

05

The sand · 2 m

White coral sand, and a lot of noise.

The swell comes straight in off the Indian Ocean and breaks close to the beach. Most people only go in up to their knees.

Kelingking Beach · 8°45′05″S 115°28′23″E

You made it down.

Getting back up is the hard part.
